Do not eat any food after midnight the night before your booked surgery.

On the day of surgery you may take medications at any time with small sips of water--this does not count as food.

Unless you have been given specific instructions to not drink fluids, you may take water, clear apple juice or clear cranberry juice, or black coffee or plain tea up until 4 hours from the time you were directed to arrive at City Centre Surgery. Do not drink or eat any other fluids eg smoothies, milk, porridge, soups.

Stop smoking for 24-72 hours before your procedure or earlier as directed by your surgeon. This includes vaping and marijuana use.

Do not chew gum on the day of surgery. Brush your teeth as usual, but do not swallow water or toothpaste.

Please bring a complete list of all current medications, supplements, and vitamins to your pre-operative appointment. Your care team will advise which medications to continue, adjust, or pause in the days leading up to surgery.

Notify your surgeon immediately if you develop an illness, infection, or notice any change in your health status in the weeks before surgery. In certain situations, proceeding while unwell may increase your risk — your safety always comes first.

You will need a responsible adult to personally accompany you home following your procedure. No one can be discharged home alone.

Someone should stay with you for the first 24 hours.

If travelling from out of town, please consider staying before and/or after your surgery at the Homewood Suites by Hilton.

Please bring a valid photo ID, your provincial health card, any pre-operative paperwork, a list of current medications, and any pre-arranged post-surgical garments, medication and instructions you may have received from your sugeon. Wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing that is easy to put on after your procedure.

While your belongings are held securely during your surgery, we suggest that you leave jewellery and valuables at home.

Many patients enjoy using their phone while they wait and our guest wifi information will be provided on your arrival.

Please arrive at the time specified by your care team — typically 60-90 minutes before your scheduled surgery time. This time is needed for paperwork, preparation, and planning.

Our address is 9686 137th Street Surrey. We are located on the 5th floor of City Centre 4, which is the same building as the Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel above us. If you are being dropped off, the easiest entrance to access our facility will appear to be the hotel entrance on the corner. Please take the elevator to our reception on the 5th floor.

If you are arriving by car and plan to park, there is underground pay parking. Your driver will be given directions to a special spot in the parkade for patient pick-up at the appropriate time.

Do not bring valuables or jewellery.

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by one of our team members who will guide you through the check-in process, review your consent forms, and answer any additional questions, before you are taken to your pre-operative suite.

A support person may accompany you on arrival. While we do have a spacious waiting room, we suggest that the support person leave the clinic and relax, explore, and distract themselves during your private patient journey. They will be contacted with information on when to return once you are in the recovery room and typically will have 30-60 minutes to come back to be ready for pick-up.

Our nursing team will help you prepare for your procedure by gathering the admission vitals, administering pre-operative medications, and reviewing your surgical plan. Your anesthesiologist will meet you in the pre-operative suite, assess your health, and discuss and plan your anesthetic. Your surgeon will meet with you again in this area for surgical marking, answering questions, and final discussions. One of your OR nurses will walk with you to the operating room.

Your time in the recovery room is dedicated to ensuring your safety and stability. Appropriate medications to manage and control pain and nausea are always given.

The length of time you will stay in this area depends on many factors. You may not leave until specific discharge criteria are met. Our staff are empathetic, encouraging, and experienced and will endeavor to ensure you have a safe and fulfilling patient journey.

Your support person will be contacted once the recovery room staff have visibility on when it is safe for you to go home. It is important that your support person can be reached by telephone.

The recovery room staff will plan your discharge with your support person. Written discharge instructions will be provided.

A support person must accompany you home and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery.

At discharge you will be given instructions for how to contact your doctor in case of an urgent problem.

Your nurses will have given you advice and suggestions on how to manage your medications after surgery. This is based on your doctor's orders, the nurses' experience, and their observations and information they gained while taking care of you. We advise you to follow these instructions.

The clinic will contact you in the days after the surgery to collect specific information required by our accrediting body. We will also reach out to you because we want to learn about your patient experience and use this information to improve our work.

You should also contact us as soon as possible if you experience any complications or find the need to go to a hospital.

The best way to determine candidacy is through a thorough consultation with one of our surgeons. Your health and surgical history and your goals will be assessed. If you do not have a surgeon in mind, we can help suggest someone.

Recovery times vary depending on the procedure. All of our surgeries are day-care procedures; we can help arrange additional nursing care if that is important to you. Your surgeon will provide a personalised recovery plan at your consultation. Most patients return to light activity within one to two weeks, with full recovery over a longer period.

City Centre Surgery is accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC). All the physicians that work at City Centre Surgery are registered with the CPSBC. All of our nurses are registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The facility meets the highest standards for surgical safety, sterility, and patient care.
